In the latest post, I have shared some infomation about Hanoi Hilton Opera Hotel (5 stars in Hanoi) but note this is not a hotel in Hanoi Vietnam. All of what I want to write here is about Hanoi Hilton Prison (Hoa Lo Prison).
Hanoi Hilton Prison or Hoa Lo Prison is one, located in Hai Ba Trung and Hoa Lo street (Hoan Kiem dictrist) and in the center of Hanoi Capital.

Hoa Lo Prison was built by the French in 1896 to detain many people (mostly political prisoners). French name of this prison at that time was the Maison Centrale Prison but Hanoi people usualy call it is Hoa Lo Prison. About one century ago, this prison was located in the south of Hanoi Old Quarter. But until today, it was located in the center of Hanoi capital due to happen quickly urbanization.
Especially since the seventies of 20th centery, Hoa Lo Prison has become a place for the detention of prisoners as American pilots (Including John McCain). And the American prisoners have called this prison by a funny name is "Hilton Hotel in Hanoi".

In the 1990s of the 20th century, Hanoi has moved the prisoners at Hoa Lo Prison to the prisons located away from the center of Hanoi.
And then Hoa Lo Prison was become into a historic sites for use as a place of visit for tourists at home and abroad.

Today, Hoa Lo Prison left with only one small corner where to visiting for tourists. The remaining area was built a commercial building with the name is Hanoi Tower.
